What am I working on?

I'm working on this! What is it? That's not for me to say, not yet. What I will say is that it's a lot of fun, you can see I'm having fun right?! Why fun? Because I'm at last drawing from my imagination again, which is why I got into this silly old industry we call comic books in the first place. My work on Batman: Death by Design (a New York Times best seller by the way!) had strict parameters, rigid rules of engagement that I stuck to as much as possible. We, the creative team, had a firm vision of how the book should look which demanded from me a large degree of self control. I'm not a natural rule follower. I like to do things my way. But I also like to push myself into creatively dangerous areas that I might develop and grow as an artist, which is why I took the Batman DbD gig. Now the book is done and out there I've found myself finding it difficult to "get out of character". For three years I've molded my art style based on someone elses work, putting aside my own artistic voice...well, it's time that voice was heard! The image above is an edited section of the first page of a short science fiction story commissioned by Mr.X, as he'll be known for the foreseeable future. The rules on this one are simple. "Give me your best Dave Taylor!" So that's what I'm trying to do, my best personal work, directly from my recently awoken imagination. More soon...
